HOUSTON, November 15, 2010 – SHAPE is participating this week at the American Heart Association 2010 Scientific Sessions in Chicago. There have been a number a major developments, including the release of the “2010 guideline for assessment of cardiovascular risk in asymptomatic adults,” by the American College of Cardiology Foundation (ACCF)/American Heart Association (AHA) Task Force on Practice Guidelines in collaboration with six other specialty societies. This is a very welcome release and it closely matches the First SHAPE Guideline that we released in 2006. We expect to have more to say about this in the coming days.
The coverage in theheart.org focuses in on the differences, but the fact is that the new ACC/AHA risk assessment guidelines represent a giant step toward the widespread adoption of scientifically proven technologies that can accurately assess an individual’s risk of a first heart attack.
